Make a million in Second Life November 28, 2006 Veronique De Freitas
A former teacher has become a millionaire thanks to the online game Second Life, where users play out their fantasy existence.
Mrs Graef, a German resident, is a real-estate tycoon in the Second Life virtual community who yesterday announced that she has made more than $1m in profit.
Anshe Chung, Graef's avatar or character in Second Life, buys large blocks of land, build houses on them and sells them to other players for gain.
Mrs Graef wrote on her website: "Anshe Chung's achievement is all the more remarkable because the fortune was developed over a period of two-and-a-half years from an initial investment of $9.95."
According to Graef her Second Life empire includes virtual real estate that is equivalent to 36 square km of land.
