Guardian Jobs site hacked

Cybercriminals have accessed personal details of job-hunters on the newspaper's site.

Guardian Jobs Site

Computer hackers have targeted the Guardian Jobs site, putting personal information from users' CVs at risk.

The exact number of job-hunters affected hasn't been announced, but all those believed to have been affected have been identified and emailed by the newspaper.

The emails read: "You have used the site to make one or more job applications and we believe your personal data, relating to those applications, may have been accessed."

The emails also confirmed that there was no reason to believe financial or banking details were at risk.

However, the Guardian did forward on contact details of companies offering support on identity fraud and police advice about taking precautions.

The newspaper has described the breach to the BBC as "sophisticated and deliberate" and has since assured members that the system is now secure.

The US site was not affected as it is run by a separate system.
