Plan cheap day trips online

Save money when exploring Britain by getting cost-cutting tips online. We pick 10 sites to help you plan cheap and cheerful days out all over the UK

Save money on Days Out

Get free admission to attractions
The people behind the attractive A Free Day Out website were fed up with the expensive entrance fees for many attractions, and decided to collect information on free days out. Their ideas are searchable by county, and cover England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and even the Channel Islands. Suggested activities include farms, museums and theme parks, and are accompanied by details of opening times, facilities and contact details. Places you want to visit can be bookmarked with the ‘add attraction' button.

Explore the South for less
The Days Out Guide website covers trips to London and the South by train, and features more than a hundred 2-for-1 deals, along with reduced and group-save rail fares. There are also ideas for free activities, such as watching the Changing of the Guard or attending a trial at the Old Bailey. Simply select the county or area of London you'd like to visit, or choose a type of day out - for example beach or countryside - to view a range of activities.

Discover free UK days out

‘All you need is knowledge' to visit free attractions and find free entertainment in the UK, or so this website states. DoFreeStuff.com provides a wealth of information about attractions, events, galleries, heritage sites and museums that won't cost you a penny. Each entry includes contact information and a link to an external website so you can double-check that charges haven't been introduced. It's also a bonus that you don't have to register to use the site - just select a country and county and away you go.

Get out and about in Wales
SoFrom adventure parks to historic castles, South Wales has much to offer in the way of cheap days out, and the South Wales Attraction website features lots of special offers on local things to see and do. It also lists places where admission is totally free and details of forthcoming events. Find your fun-filled day out by specifying a theme - for example, active, ghosts or ‘it's raining' - and then the region you'd like to have it in. You can use keywords to refine your search further.

Print discount vouchers
Proclaiming itself the premier destination for discounted days out in the UK, Days Out UK lets you search more than 7,000 attractions and 300 member vouchers. These cover everything from festivals and theme parks to museums and nature parks, although you need to pay from £4.99 for membership to access the vouchers. You can browse for a suitable attraction by county, type or name, and then view the available facilities and a location map.
