What is broadband and how it does work?

Broadband is a high-speed, always-on internet connection.

Even though your broadband line is always connected, you can still make regular phone calls - on the same phone line.

Broadband offers downloads speeds of more than 10 times faster than a dial-up connection.

ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) is the most common broadband technology - it uses the BT telephone line to transmit data.

LLU (Local Loop Unbundling) is a process that lets competitors to BT set up their own equipment in BT's telephone exchanges so they can offer their own telephone and broadband services.

Where you live can be important when it comes to broadband - there are some households that may be too far from the exchange to receive a broadband service.
