Online video help - 6 more tips

Windows Media Player
Windows Media Player isn’t always the best choice for playing back video files. VLC Media Player
is a great alternative as it’s capable of playing a wide variety of
media formats without you needing to download additional codecs.

YouTube videos - improve quality
To
watch YouTube videos at a higher resolution, simply add the following
tag to the end of the video’s URL in your browser’s address bar: &fmt=6. This tells YouTube to access the 448 x 336-pixel resolution version instead of the standard 320 x 240 pixels.

YouTube videos - subscribe to tagged clips
Many
YouTube videos are tagged with keywords to make it easy for you to find
similar and related clips. You can exploit this feature by using an RSS
feed reader to notify you as soon as videos with a particular tag are
uploaded. It’s simply a matter of entering the correct RSS URL into
your feed reader. So for videos tagged with ‘pets’ use
feed://www.youtube.com/rss/tag/pets.rss.

YouTube videos - get Better clips
Firefox users can improve the quality of YouTube videos without needing to use URL tags by installing the Better YouTube extension.
Install the extension and go to Tools, Add-ons, Extensions and click
the Options button for Better YouTube. Select YouTube Theater and click
OK, then browse to the video you want to watch.

YouTube videos - how to download them
Better
YouTube also lets you download selected videos by clicking the Options
button, as above, and choosing Download YouTube. This places a download
link below the video on its YouTube page. Click the link and provide a
download location. You’ll need a Flash video player to watch it on your
PC.

FLV Videos - convert them
To play FLV videos in
Windows Media Player or embed them in presentations, you’ll need to
convert the clips into conventional AVI files - use this free FLV converter.
Download, install and launch the program, then click Add Files and
browse to the FLV file you want to convert. Click Convert to change it
into an AVI file.
