Art Attack

Feeling arty? We show you the best places to doodle, draw, spray and paint online.

Play Art Attack

iSketch
PLAY ONLINE PICTIONARY

Hone your skills for your next family game of Pictionary with this online version. You play against up to nine opponents, with each person taking turns to draw for the others. Points are awarded for guessing correctly, but you get the best scores for having your drawing guessed.

Sketch Swap
SWAP YOUR SKETCHES

At first glance, this simple drawing program seems a little underwhelming. You only get one pen to play with and there isn't even a choice of colours. But what makes it special and oh-so-addictive is the swapping. Every time you submit a picture, you get to see someone else's masterpiece gradually get drawn on your screen. The supsense of what will appear is enough to keep you coming back time and again.

Typedrawing
CREATE AWESOME ART BY TYPING

A picture may tell a thousand words, but here it's the words drawing the picture. Paints and brushes have been ditched in favour of lines of text of varying fonts and shades. Type in a phrase and its letters appear as you make a brushstroke across the screen. The letters are drawn larger if you move the mouse quickly, which makes it easy to create some great effects.

SwarmSketch
JOIN A DRAWING FLASHMOB

At SwarmSketch, everyone helps to draw the same picture. A new subject is listed each week, with every vistor allowed to add a single short line. Everyone else can then vote on which lines will stay and which should be faded out. The image develops gradually over the week, resulting in a piece of work created by literally hundreds of artists.

Zewall
SPRAY GRAFFITI ART ONLINE

Unleash your inner hoodlum at this awesome graffiti site. You can spray any of 19 different venues, including London double-deckers, Paris rooftops and even the side of a temple. The tools are a little fiddly to use, but the gallery images prove it's possible to create some truly stunning artwork.

The box doodle project
PAINT CARTOONS ON BOXES

Cartoon art is the order of the day at this pleasingly odd site. The concept is to paint your work on one of the scanned images of flattened cardboard boxes. A strange idea, for sure, but it works nicely as the different box shapes are easy to transform into a variety of characters and objects.

Onion Skin
DRAW EASY ANIMATION

If the corners of your old school books were covered with little flipbook drawings, you'll love this site. You get six panels on which to draw the scenes of a short animation sequence. A click of a button then brings your work to life before your eyes.

GraffitiCreator.net
CREATE DAZZLING GRAFFITI

Can't draw for toffee? No problem. Here you can create graffiti-style tags that would be the envy of spray-can wielding urchins anywhere, and you don't need an ounce of artistic talent. Just tap in the words you want to convert, then play with the settings to colour them in with pro-style spraying. Once you're done, you can save the results.

Drawsketch
LEARN PROPER REAL-LIFE DRAWING

So after all that virtual doodling, do you fancy having a crack at some real-life drawing? Aimed at the absolute beginner, this site is crammed with bundles of step-by-step tutorials which should make your drawings more Michelangelo than Michael Winner.
