Freind cannot access internet (thinks its winsock)

my freind cannot access the internet but Telewest have told him his connection is fine but tis something wrong with a file on his PC called winsock

whenever he opens a page it just displays page cannot be found

imt trying to help him with this so any help would be apreciated

im going to send him the setup file for internet explorer 6 as well if that helps him

hes running win2000 thats all i know about his pc
