I opened the program and saw two columns, one called keep and the other called remove. there was nothing in the remove column but there was four DLL files in the keep column:
RNR20.DLL MSWSOSP.DLL MSAFD.DLL RSVPSP.DLL
I ticked the "I know what i'm doing" box and clicked finish. It gave me a list of repairs that were carried out - none.
When I uninstalled AOL I did it via the add/remove program in the control panel but upon doing a search of the computer (start -> search) I found several folders that had not been removed - I removed them.
I managed to download the update drivers for my modem but these have made no difference.
When the connection died I clicked the computer icon in the taskbar and got this:
9 minutes Connected at 40,000bps Bytes Received 1,632,456 Bytes Sent 276,631
Does that mean anything at all? I did notice that the "connected at" figure ranges from 38,000 right up to 57,600 each time I connect.
I have been using the 5-9 miutes I get each time to download the one minute and two minute updates from microsoft.com. Somehow I thought maybe one of these would sort the problem (don't ask me why).
Thank you for the help again.
I may have to take the computer to the repair shop and see if they can mend it. The problem is the only computer repair place around here is in the branch of PC World and they act so smug and snobbish when someone brings in their computer for repair.
