Broadband Modem

System details - Win 98, Internet Explorer 6, Wanadoo Broadband using Copper Jet Modem (Came with the Freeserve package I signed up for last year).
I have over the last two days had a bit of trouble with my broadband connection as I have been using the net for about an hour and suddenly it disconnects and the broadband icon on the taskbar goes red so when I try to re-connect I get the message "Connection failed could not detect modem".
The strange thing is I look at the moden itself And there are two light on it that are both green which tells me that (supposedly) everything is alright.
I also went into the Control Panel and looked in the Device Manager in the System bit but there was no sign of the Copper Jet under any of the icons.
I restarted the PC and everything was back to normal.
The only thing that is different for yesterday and today is that at the weekend I purchased a gamepad which I have put into the other USB port, I know this might be a stupid question could this be affecting the modem? I have remove the gamepad and was using the net for about 15 mins and there was no problem although I had been on for over an hour when I had this problem.
I have tried contacting Wanadoo but could not get through before I came to work, if someone could suggest anything else I might be able to do I would be grateful.
Thanks in advance
