I agree that websites should adjust to the user's screen setup.
There are many reasons for people running as lower resolutions - some have a small screen and others do it because they have eyesight problems meaning that they cannot read the text if the resolution is too high.
While we're on the subject, it would be really good if web sites could adjust to the user's selected text size as well - I use Accessibility options to override the standard text size as have difficulty reading small text and it is very irritating when this makes a website unuseable. The most common problems I have with this are that the navigation menu down the left hand side of some pages will not scroll, even though the rest of the page will, and graphics that overwrite the screen text because they do not adjust to the fact that the text is taking up more room.
