The trouble is is that if you go to any forum and ask what resolution you should design websites in and virtually everyone will jump up and shout 800 x 600. I have a serious problem with this, because as you so rightly point out more and more people have TFT screens and 17" monitors.
IMHO, those who advocate 800 x 600 are living in the dark ages Please post your query to the boards as many hands make light work, and I'm not talking electricians! If your problem is solved, let us know so that others can learn.
