A few months ago Microsoft issued SP1 for XP. Following a legal deal Microsoft were forced to re-issue SP1 but in this re-issue they removed an element of IE6 called Microsoft Virtual Machine (VM). A small move on the face of it, but it means that IE6 is no longer able to run Java applications. This explains the Microsoft view but in real terms it means that anybody who has loaded the second version SP1 is stuck with the problem until Microsoft get round to doing something about it. Putting Java onto a PC is easy enough but unless someone out there can find a copy of the original SP1 we have lost VM.
