Royalty / Copyright free music...?

My son wants to make a film during the summer holidays from school with his friends. He's hoping to upload it to YouTube or similar, and is on the lookout for free music that he could use and which could be published in this way. Any suggestions as to where to look? I've tried Google, but most sites offering copyright free aren't offering cost free music.
I know I'm asking a lot, but he's only 12 and his budget is limited, and the way these things go, the project may never even get off the ground!!
