Hi Guys,
Just got home so I thought I would try out suggestions and send a message with my findings:
Greysts - there is no Sounds and Audio icon in my control panel, maybe your in another version of Windows.
Barney - I don't really like WMP and rarely use it. I keep it as a failsafe in case anything happens to my MusicMatch. I have about 10gb of mp3's on my hard drive so I prefer using a Jukebox like MusicMatch to sort, play and record them. However, today I tried to use my WMP, it opened but would not play any mp3's even after I made it the default player. It then got stuck and I had to reboot to get rid of it!
BurrWalnut - Did as you suggested and went into the Multimeadia icon in the control panel. The show volume control is greyed out so unable to use it. I right clicked on My Computer and went into System Information. I use Norton Utilities 2002 so that provided the information on my system. Could not find any info on my sound card anywhere.
More info in general guys. Since Monday I have noticed on booting up a grey box saying 'New Hardware found'. Apparently I have installed a PCI Multimedia Audio Device, however I have no recollection of this so I have been ignoring it. Maybe I have been abducted by aliens and my memory swiped! Who knows, but something weird is going on.
