As long as not too much data has gone on it maybe possible, however, you may find that a large percentage cannot be recovered.

The first thing to do is not to turn on the machine as new files are created and this will overwrite data.

The software that the authorities use is expensive, and not always available to the public. There are data recovery firms who may be able to do the job, but obviously charge for the service, and certainly won't guarantee 100% success.

Certainly a lesson learned on the importance of backing up
