Wifi problem
      Sun May 04 2008 09:48 PM

My Network
I have cable broadband thats feeds into a Linux PC acting as a firewall which then passes into a 16 port switch The IP range is 192.168.1.* and the IP addresses are assigned saticly. The network contains 4 PC and two laptops running, XP, Vista and Linux. I have a Belkin Wireless access point running from the switch, only the laptops connect via wireless (or at least try).

The Problem
My Daughter has a HP laptop which use's a Zyxel USB wireless adapter to connect to the internet without a problem (no internal wireless). The laptop is set to connect using the Zyxel software as opposed to using windows but it will connect using windows. It uses 64 bit wep and mac filtering.

Problem is no other wireless device can connect to the Internet via the Belkin (regardless of the daughter being connected or not), I have tried several other wireless device on my other laptop and PC's. The PC\Laptop says I am connected, the Belkin AP says I am connected but there is no traffic going through. I have set the AP to basic, no wep, no mac filtering, turned firewalls off, nothing just, just says I am connected but no traffic.

Today I purchased a new AP, Sitecom AP. As the daughter was out I set my laptop up on this AP, 5 minutes I was surfing the net, great I thought a duff Belkin AP.............WRONG. When daughter comes in I try to connect her laptop to the new AP, it says it is connected but nothing. Used both Zyxel and Windows connections but the result was the same, no traffic. I have confirmed the setting are the same, turned firewalls on and off tried various wep settings but no traffic.

So what do I try, I have checked that the windows connection on the daughters Laptop is set to AP but that made no difference, to be honest I am running out of ideas

Suggestions please??

Tim

P.S. For got to mention that the daughter DS and Wii connect ok
