Honestly not sure yet. Like you I've never really been a fan of combined suites , my reasons being that most ,if not all of these suites (a)cost money , and , (b) are resource hungry. However as I'm a fan of AVG and it's free I'm prepared to be open minded. It consists of an Antivirus , Antispyware , a link scanner ( similar to MacAfee's site advisor ), a resident shield and the customary E-mail scanner. It also allows for automatic updates. All in all a quite generous package and i feel it's certainly worth a try. At the end of the day it can be as pretty as it likes but the "proof of the pudding " will be down to how it performs , or doesn't. As it will take time to evaluate I'm going to stick with it , and the other apps i use ( eg SpywareBlaster ). I will remove any other apps that are said to conflict with AVG as and when i have total confidence in it. Early indications are , for me at least , that this is the way i think it will go.
Final thought.......initially scanning does seem to take a long time , for me 1hr 45 mins .However in saying that if was running the independent versions of AVG's antivirus and antispy they would take on average 45 to 60 mins each , so it may not be as bad as it first appears.
