Problem with Media Player (since updating to Vista SP1)

I have installed SP1 this evening. I have sound on the laptop when viewing the internet and all system sounds are there. I can play my music files via RealPlayer with no problem.
The problem is that I've opened Media player and gone through my library. When I for instance open an album and try and play a song, I get a message on status bar on the bottom of WMP which continually flashes up "media changing" and then one by one a red cross appears by the side of each track.
At the end I get a pop up message which says "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help." I have clicked web help and checked the status of the audio device and it's enabled, checked for driver update and it says we are using the latest driver.
Could this be problem with the sound driver or a problem with media player itself?
Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks.
