Please help before I go bald!!!!

Hi guys, your help is needed yet again....
I have a desktop PC running XP and have just bought a Toshiba Dual Core laptop running Vista Home Premium. I have also bought a Belkin Wireless G+ MIMO modem router 802.11g. I have hooked up the PC using an Ethernet cable and I can access the internet fine. I have then tried to go online using the laptop and although it says I am connected to the router it says I am not online and it won't let me connect to anything at all. I had a look in the Network Centre and it had an icon labelled as my laptop and it showed the connection to the router icon but from there to the internet it has a big red cross between the two. Understand me so far? I am completely lost! What do I need to do to get online with the laptop?
Please could someone put me out of my misery?
