Fife Flyer - thanks for coming back to me, another Fifer coincidentally. I have done as you suggested. I find I have tried to install this particular service pack approx 15 times over the last 10 days ( it was first notified to me on 12/2/08) All failures have quoted the same Failure Code viz Ox800706BE bar 2 out of the most recent attempts which have quoted Ox643. In trying to remedy matters this pm, I thought I would try System Restore. The previous date to today it was offering was 16/2/08. As I thought that was probably after the date the problem occurred, I tried to go back to an earlier date. Clicking on the tab on the calendar for January had no response. Nevertheless, I did a system restore for 16/2/08. This seemed to work OK and I got the screen which confirmed I had restored my system to that of 16/2/08. When I went back into System Restore however, it showed the current restore point as today and 16/2/08 wasn't even highlighted as a possible alternative.Again I couldn't get back to January. Whatever is going on has me beat. I picked up 2 virus threats last week ( probably from a porn site) but AVG seemed to pick them up and I transferred them into the virus vault as instructed. Nothing else seems to be amiss. Before I twigged the Windows Update problem, I did a HiJack This scan last week which was given the all clear on this forum. Your help would be appreciated. Cheers.
