dail in server or simillar access.
      Mon Feb 11 2008 05:44 PM

i am a sole trader who has an employee who works from her home covering my admin. however, we note that one file for a software package will not travel between machines without all sorts of difficulties. so im looking into finding "a better way".

We need to have access to the running program ideally, so we can both update and add new info to it without having to send the backup file each time and wade through the c drive program files to install it etc each time we want to use it.

one option i thought of was to change one of the old machines across to a server, this appears to be quite a technical exercise but one where perhaps we could both access the running program from either end.

the second option was items like orb, or data storage on line but these dont appear to allow running programs just back up files.

would something like go to my pc be better?

My main concern is coming up shortly (as in August)i will be going overseas for a month and need to know that i can access everything at opposite time to my employee.

im after ideas and opinions and i will keep an open mind. by the end of this week there will be two computers here, the current one on xp and a new one on vista, the xp one was built by myself some years ago. which is why i believe it could make a server in the long run but not before ive seen the good/bad/ugly side of the vista system. The horror stories warn me to hold back on the new machine until its proven itself.

i look forward to hearing from you on this.

regards Anna
