Because I cant get normal broadband etc the govt pays a subsidy to selected ISP companies to proved satellite broadband to certain areas like mine. It is an 84cm dish on the roof which connects by twin cabling to a modem inside. Its just a plug and play type. The govt subsidy covers the installation costs (usually $2,700) and I pay $29.95 per month (there are other companies dearer than that) with 500mg monthly download at 512/256kbps, unlimited upload. When the limit is reached the speed is then shaped down to 28 kbps (which is better than my old dial up which was 19 kbps LOL). Other companies offering this service have excess fees if you go over your monthly instead of slowing it down. I prefer slowing it down as I ALWAYS go over by 2-3 gig per month LOL, it would cost me a fortune if I was with one of the other companies. It is on a 30 days automatic renewal contract and I have the option to increase/decrease my plan whenever, the next plan up is 1gig for $46.95 month at same speed and other plans go up to 5gig per month. There are faster plans as well, double the speed I get at 500mg month is $39.95. It can be very slow at times so wouldnt be good for gaming and a heavy wind or rain can make it drop for a few seconds, but to me it is easier and cheaper than dial up. I was paying $29.95 for dial up and everytime I dialed up it also cost me the phone call as well. Which was dearer than satellite. I wouldn't have been able to afford the satellite if it wasnt govt subsidised. I hope I explained it simply to you. If you want to have a look for yourself go to www bluemaxx com au . Thanks again for all your help, you must be a whiz kid. I wish my kids were into computers, my daughter only uses her laptop for facebook to keep in touch with her friends but as she lives on Gold Coast (4 hours away from me) I can also keep in touch with her through windows messenger and that saves phone calls as well LOL.
