mega annoying - BT, what do you think ?
      Tue Feb 05 2008 10:48 PM

Hello

Being a noob, after lurking for many years I thought i'd make my first post and make it some what a "controversial" one.

I've been with BT Broadband for about 6 years and extremely happy with what i get, 3MB download with a 40GB monthly limit (though i rarely get anywhere near that).

Last night I received a call saying that BT would like to offer me a £2 per month discount and upgraded features, great im thinking "i'll have some of that" until i discover that I have to resign for another "fixed" 12 month contract. I said that this wasn't right and I wouldn't sign up for anything for 12 months without a reasonable get out clause attached (perhaps moving abroad for a job as an example).

I asked that "being a loyal customer of 6 years should i not get this discount as a thank you or should just get it without having to sign up for another contract" The tele-sales guy couldn't sanction such a request.

So today I spoke with their "option package team" who informed me that anyone with a BT Broadband account for more than one year was being "offered" this new enhanced package for a new contract. When I stated my case for a "loyal customer" and that i didnt want a new contract, they informed me that ALL their customers were loyal and they couldn't offer me the enhanced package without the new contract. If they were to give me the upgrade without contract then they wouldn't be playing fair with any of their other customers who had declined the new offer.

So i being the brazen hussy that i am, said (along the lines) "If you are offering me and everyone else a discount, why don't BT just apply it across the board as a goodwill gesture TO ALL ITS CUSTOMERS especially as it appears they can afford it ?" I was told by the operator that it was something that OFCOM had implemented (but i bet OFCOM didnt tell them to subject everyone to new contracts and T&Cs) and they had to offer a fair and transparent offer - which I understand they have to.

But again the point is Why don't BT just discount/upgrade automatically or are they so desperate to maintain and keep their current customer base?

They have basically got my back soo much that I am sorely tempted to move elsewhere (albeit on contract, for the sheer bloody mindedness of it all) - just give me the £2/month discount - maybe i will save by moving to another ISP, but i enjoy the buggeration free factor of canceling with BT at a moments notice, should i ever get the call to move away, .......

Your thoughts would be welcome
