My ISP is AOL, and personally I have 2 usernames. I also have e-mail accounts with Yahoo and Googlemail, but have always accessed mail by going direct to the various mail systems.
Having used Firefox successfully for a while now, and having read how supposedly wonderful Thunderbird is, I decided to give it a go and access my various mail accounts in the one place. However................ it has been a complete disaster, including losing the contents of my Yahoo inbox!
Initially, Googlemail and Yahoo Mail seemed to be working ok, I think using smtp.uk.aol.com as the outgoing server, but then I setup my 2 AOL accounts and my problems started. Although all the accounts got their "inbox" and "sent" folders populated, sending mail is impossible. I continually get an error message saying that connection with the smtp server failed, etc etc.
So.................. what on earth is going wrong. According to Thunderbird, setting separate smtp servers is only for experienced users, and yet the settings for Google, Yahoo and AOL all quote different smtp servers. So what should the server be, and should it be the same for all mail systems?
Help would be greatly appreciated!
