I had the same problem awhile ago with the XP stopping loading. The problem was that I had a faulty disc in that it had an error on it. Greysts as I recall suggested copying my XP disc with a disc copier such as Nero which will put right some faults from the original. I them formated with the copy disc with no problem. It shouldn't take more than an hour to load XP. Hope that helps.
