system restore disc will not load

ihave a fujitsu siemens desktop when i try and load the system restore disc i get a message saying it cannot continue because i have a newer os on the system i presume it means updates and sp2 do i have to uninstall these and could someone please point me in the right direction this is my first post so please go steady
