New modem, Rubbish Speed.

Ok,

I've been running Tiscali broadband with a Thomson ST 330 USB modem for donkeys and connecting at around 2MB. I decided it was time to go wireless so I called Tiscali and got a Thomson ST 585v6 router. I haven't got the wireless cards for the computers yet so I wired it in on just the one PC using the ethernet cable. Everything works but now I can only connect at less then 500KBs? I have no experience with routers so just wondered if anyone had any ideas?
