Windows Media Player 9 Track Recognition help please??

Hello folks, I wonder if you can help? I store lots of music on media 9, make up own playlists & cds etc etc with all track details be they from Windows recognition of a cd or my own listing details. My problem is that when I copy a playlist with all track details etc & give to a friend etc the tracks aren't recognised on their media player nor on my Vista laptop?? Is there anyway round this? I rip tracks in wma lossless, should I do them as MP3s in future, will that help? tho I do like wma lossless to be honest.
