The software (firmware) is rubbish and as this is largely all the product is about, so it makes it a bad purchase.
It freezes, or crashes, if you navigate at anything other than a snails pace or when it feels like. The same often happens if you dare to 'fast forward' or move thru scenes, however that may be with all media players, until software improves. It doesn't play certain AVI files, however I am sure this can be overcome, with better codex.
Great idea, so keen to see who has a better media playing hard drive.
