Define "a while ago". Computers are naturally prone to picking up dust which can raise internal temperatures and hinder performance. Take off the side panel and have a look to see if there is a lot of dust settling on the components, in the heatsinks and of course in the fans. If there is, wipe/blow it away until you have a clean case. Spray air, canned, is handy here but your own lungpower can also be used.
Try a crap clean. Get Ccleaner and ave it clean your system and registry. This usually puts up performance a lot if it has never been used in the past.
Finally, run antispyware and antiviral checks.
