Cyclic Redundancy Check message

Hi Everyone
I have been saving my web site to an external hard drive without problems for 3 years.
Usually takes a few minutes and I do it once a week.
This last week the hard drive is receiving and saving my site ok until half way through and then Error CRC comes up.
I have checked the hard drive for space, has 18GB free, have scanned it for viruses, malware, trojans and so on and all is clear.
Can anyone suggest anything???
My site is a commercial one so need to keep it backed up and safe, hence the weekly back ups.
