My SD/MMC card suddenly stopped being read by my computers?

1 of my SD cards which i use in my in car stereo (contains music) suddenly is not being read by any of my computers. When plugged in, a pop up says its not formatted & needs to be formatted & the contents of the Sd card dont show. Now it no longer plays in my car stereo also. can i save it from dying or the music on it ?..however, i do remember that some weeks ago in the webuser mag there was a software which can retrieve the files from such SD/MMC cards...anyone kno...?? thks all
