Are you sure about the mixture of USB1 and 2? It would be very unusual to buy a new PC in such a condition. Where are the USB ports physically situated and what's the make and model of the machine? Once a peripheral has been installed on a USB port it should make no difference if you move it to another. Windows itself may do a quick re-install on that new port but it shouldn't need any user intervention.
