internet explorer will not open at all

Hi there l have tried searching for this problem but to no avail

everytime l click on the internet explorer icon on my desktop or my start menu nothing happens the longest l've waited is about 10 mins ... in am using win 2000 and the version of ie is the one that comes with that... any ideas
