win xp pro & win xp home on same pc

hi folks i have two old pcs one is compleatly u/s so i am trying to fit the two hard drives together this i have succseded in doing however i do not understand the jumper cable setup i can get the two o/s to work both either in the master or the slave but cannot work them together. when they are both plugged in pc says cannot find os any help wil be great ta iain. ps on the connecter between power & master/slave only the pro hard drive has a small white connecter connecting two pins together the xp home does not ta again
