Thank you soooo much. It worked. Actually I downloaded the stuff last night and hadn't had a chance to check, and Orange called this morning. After a long time troubleshooting (again!) on the phone (and confirming a line test which came out fine) they put it down to an error with win98 which they couldn't find. In fact all they could recommend was getting a package of lower speed (and I'm on a 2mg speed only as it is)!!
So, I tried your solution and it worked. So relieved I can FINALLY it.
