We got hit a few months ago by Chinese Spammers. We were offered PS3s and Wiis but I just deleted them as junk.
Then reading the eBay Community boards I came across an entry by someone asking what they could do about a bank transfer they had made. Another asked 'how much, what for' and it transpired that this person had responded to spam email and ordered a few hundrded Wii's and PS3s and sunk the best part of £3,000 into the venture. Oh, and paid by bank transfer. And, yes, ALL done over the net with no other contact. They hadn't heard back - the website they were using turned out to be a front................The seller's PayPal account had 'problems' at the time.
Now at what point did any sensible person turn away from this? At how many points in the 'loop' did this person think 'should I? shouldn't I?'
The guy buying two MP3s is a smaller scale, but twice as daft in my book. But, sorry to say it, so is the person who gave him £25 for the Star Letter. I think most sensible people know that anything with a China/Hong Kong tag on it on eBay should be treated with caution. To do it once is regrettable (maybe sort of understandable) but twice..........I just can't get it.
-------------------- I loved my grandmother very much.......and she fetched a good price on eBay.
