Router problems

got a new laptop today but router (netgear wgt24v3) didn't find it.so i try to install software for it via the netgear disc.this didn't work so went to netgear website and found that the disc wasn't vista compatible so downloaded right software for it agai this didn't work (also tryed on my pc tower vist but didn't work)
so whats the best make to go for ? has to be 108mbps and vista compatible and got virgin cable
!!
