Blank Dell laptop Screen

My wife has just turned on her Dell laptop but the scrren momentarily lights up and then the screen goes blank.She has had it for about 3 yrs and uses it for her own business.
I have managed to piggyback another monitor so she can use it and it is fine.
So what can be done about the screen.We have managed to save all the important data.

Someone please help.
