Thank you. I have downloaded and installed all the drivers that looked vaguely relevant and re-booted but the display is just the same. Do you have any other suggestions. Is the following information any use? I've copied it from the graphics card bit:

I couldn't see anything obviously wrong and just don't under stand why my display now looks as if I need glasses all the time but glasses don't help.
I don't know if it is relevant but the text under the icons on the desktop looks like it has a black shadow behind it whereas the text in programmes an on webpages looks very thin or skinny but still blurry.
It's all very frustrating.
