RAM Upgrade underutilisation
      Sun Nov 18 2007 07:29 PM

Up until yesterday i had 512mb of ram on my pc, consisting of two 256mb ddr pc2100 cards. I decided to upgrade one of the cards to 1gb hoping i would then get 1280mb. However after fitting, and looking on the computer properties, i have now got 768mb, obviously an improvement but not as much as i would like, as it seems that it is only utilising half of the 1gb card. A friend told me to try removing the other 256mb card to see if this helped as they may be conflicting, however when i did this it just made it 512mb.

i have ran a crucial system scan and this shows that i have a 1gb and a 256mb card, as is correct, however this also says that the 1gb card is a DDR 2700 card whereas on the actual card it says it is a 2100.

is there any way to get the system to recognise that there should be more ram memory??
