Evaluating Windows live beta & T'bird - neither will access my aol accounts
      Mon Oct 29 2007 07:17 PM

I want to use an email client to access my 3 Aol accounts, and my one Hotmail account, and have been comparing Thunderbird and the new Windows Live Beta. I've tried time and again using various help pages to enter the account details, and have managed to download the folders and emails, but after that both programs say that 'my login has failed', 'server has timed out', or 'mailbox is not available'. I am using imap.aol.com, and smtp.aol.com, ports 143 and 587, and I've tried it with and without authentication. I haven't ventured onto Hotmail yet!! Do I need to do anything with my wireless router or Comodo firewall?
I'll keep trying but if anybody can help, I'd be grateful.
Thanks
