Your solution is in a kind of cable, but certainly not a Y type one as you have specified. Doesn't exist as far as I know.

For less than £5 you can pick up a cat5e "crossover" network cable used to link both computers together. PC1 on the internet could then share its connection with PC2 with something called Internet Connection Sharing (or ICS for short).

If you do decide to go out and get this cable, I will assist in setting it all up. You can get them from places like Curry's, Comet, PC World etc. They are easily distinguished by being coloured yellow (on the tips, or entire cable sometimes), and being labelled "Crossover". They commonly look like this:

Which computer has the connection?
Any firewalls installed on either computer?
Do both computers have a NIC (Network Interface Card)

It looks a lot like one for a telephone, or dial up modem, but is just a little bigger.
