XP Download Failure And Much More
      Wed Aug 29 2007 12:50 AM

It's good to be back(Problems logging in)but I come with what seems a big problem but hopefully is not.

Security Updates download, but one attempts to install but then keeps saying it has failed...any ideas?

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 KB928366

It appeared that there had been problems for a few people and one solution that seemed to work and was suggested was just to delete the offending program/download. It was trying to download for weeks but just failing over and over.

I then hoped/believed that if I went back to the microsoft site, a more upto date patch may be available or this one might have been fixed. But all I that happened was that I was told that was nothing to download.

However, my pc when rebooted a few days ago and the Desktop screen was showing a little box came on the monitor to say...

HPQTHB08. Exe Appilcation error

The application failed to initialize properly(oxc000135)
Click on to terminate the application.

I did and the pc continued to work since.

The Computer was disturbed today(maybe a power cut)and the same thing happened again...

I had a brainwave...

What would happen if I went into the restore area and went back to a point before I deleted the item that would not download properly(K928366)

I rebooted and all was well until the desktop screen again and this time I was greeted with a new box that said...

Fatal Execution Engine Error(ox72927oe03e)

After clicking on it...

Another box appeared saying

Common Language Runtime Debugging Services
Application HPQTHB08.Exe Application exe could not be handled.
Process id=oxaf8(2808)
thread id=oxafc(2812)
Click to Terminate application
Click to Cancel the debugging Application.

The PC is working but something is wrong, I wonder if this means installing Windows XP again and that may entail a total erasing of the Hard Drive(format)or easier to fix than that. It's something I've not done before so wonder if I can do it or its a job for a repairman. Its all so confusing.

I went onto Microsoft Updates tonight and guess what, it downloaded a new update and...KB928366 is back on the system and refusing to install again.

I'm fortunate in that my files are on external drives and I've also tried to burn as much of them to DVD.

If I do attempt this, is it difficult I notice hard drive C is split so it has a recovery area? The only thing is I want to try and save my e-mails, E-mail addresses and Web Favourites somehow. So I don't lose them.

Any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks.
