Are you sure that the message was 'missing file system 32 windows' or was it 'Missing file C:\Windows\System32\something else here'.
Actually it doesn't matter what the exact message was as I suspect you have a corrupted registry or a disk error. The best thing to do first, is to borrow a copy of the WinXP CD and follow the instructions that came up with the error, i.e. probably load the recovery console and run a chkdsk.
