Motherboard Slot puzzle help Article please

Is it within the scope of Webuser to make an article up showing the types of slots on a motherboard and the pitfall of fitting different value Cards in the same slots (as with RAM)
I personally fell foul buying a PCI graphics Card then finding out it was as a PCI-express slot needed (different motherboard)  So I'll have to continue with my old AGP slot card for a few weeks (pre 2004)and find either an AGP or PCI specfic card with 512MB to fit ...PC Dealer will just say its a PCI slot without you knowing about these other slot types with the same name and the "E" or Express suffixes only when you try fitting it you'll see the difference 
There are some other PCI suffixes which are not as common so the standard for this 1 slot is a real muddle
