extended background

hi:
i'm building a website, it consists of table 800 * 600 with menu and banner and ads.. but the problem is when i view it in a bigger screen there is a big empty space around the table , i know i can repeat a certain image from one side as background so it will appear when streching but i know it's doable in frames not in tables cuz in tables i should specify the width and height of the cell that holds the background and that would increase the size of the table..
How can i use CSS or any other method to have an extended backgroung from one side (either from top to bottom left side or from right to left from the top) so it will look continuously?
