Modified theme will not save in XP

I have made some basic changes (fonts, desktop picture) to a theme in XP, which I really like.
However, it will not save as theme, which is really frustrating, as if I choose another theme and want to go back to this one, I have to reset everything I have modified again.
I am using Save As in Display Properties but nothing happens - have even tried saving to different locations such as the desktop just to see if anything will happen but nothing!
Any suggestions please?
