Onboard sound normally needs to be disabled to start using a separate Sound Card (or used to be when I last looked at a motherboard manual, a few years ago now). It was a jumper that needed to be set a certain way, and it was the motherboard manual that told me where and how. Without it I wouldn't know. Did you get a manual for this machine?
