You could try a right click on a blank area on your taskbar, not the system tray and go to properties then remove the tick from "Hide inactive icons" it may help.

Failing that:

CTRL+ALT+DEL to get up task manager.
Click on "Processes" tab
Highlight the "explorer" process
Click "End Process"... this will stop your desktop.
Click on "Applications" tab
Click "New Task..."
Type "explorer" and click OK
